U.S. Federal Office Building - Washington
Client: General Services Administration
Site: Seattle, Washington
This Federal Office Building is a nine-story structure with stepped profile and carved ornament cascading down the towers and piers that is characteristic of the Moderne Style. The building occupies an entire block, and while the exterior is relatively unchanged, the interior has been extensively remodeled. Our Historic Structure Report evaluated the historical and architectural significance and the physical condition of the building in order to recommend appropriate rehabilitation plans for changes to the structure. These changes consisted primarily of upgrading fire and life safety systems, energy efficiency, mechanical systems, and handicapped access. Since such upgrades have proven extremely damaging in the past, preparation of plans for installations with minimum impact on the building were critical.
