Peck House
Client: Sally & Gary St. Clair, Owners
Site: Empire, Colorado
Built in several stages from 1862 to 1880, the Peck House is the oldest continuously operated hotel in the state of Colorado. The hotel began as a private home, open to travelers during the early period of settlement when no other accommodations were available. The hotel became the social center of Empire, and each evening a band serenaded the town from the second story veranda where strings of red, white, and blue lights accented the exterior. In 1986, the Collaborative developed plans and specifications for second floor renovations and following this, a historically and architecturally appropriate renovation. Our firm also prepared the nomination of the Peck House to the National Register of Historic Places. Its nomination was subsequently approved, and the Peck House was placed on the National Register.
